I chose this phrase of Leo Tolstov with an epigraph for my documentary film “Oda to Joy” (2011). In it, I talked with people who were over 90: from Boris Chertok, who sent Gagarin into space, to the street child Ivan Kobylkin. The main thing that unites them is not special diets and exercises, but the ability to rejoice and be grateful to God. Despite the fact that Ivan Kobylkin, for example, lost his leg in the war.

It is important to understand: a good mood is not a right, but an obligation! If you do not feel joy, then because “your mind is falsely directed”. And we must not regret yourself, much less expecting pity from others, but to understand what this “false orientation” is. Both Martin Luther King and Barack Obama quoted this phrase of the American preacher Theodore Parker. Partly she was lost, it seems to me, because of an astronomical metaphor. There is a kind of cosmic representation of morality, there is its “arc” (that is, the trajectory in space), and there is justice in the form of a cosmic object with the strongest gravity that twists this trajectory. Frankly, not “I have a dream”.

Nevertheless, for the past few years, this phrase saves me from the Handra. And not just she herself, namely this awkward cosmic metaphor. (For a person of an unbelieving thought of space, the only affordable type of meditation is generally, so I always try to watch missile launches!) In the XXI century, when it turned out that instead of the notorious “end of history”, all the same ancient prejudices and resentments loom in front of us, when, after a half -century experiment to erase the borders, humanity again began to erect walls – at such moments it is useful, expressed in the director’s language, to change the optics. Look at what is happening from the space distance. Only then does it become clear that civilization, whatever one may say, is moving towards more and more freedom, and even the most terrible catastrophes on this path are nothing more than statistical errors.

Such a paradox: the life of “today” can be worse than “yesterday”, but at a conditional point of the future it will be better with a 100 % probability than anywhere in the past. Personally, this is enough for me to move on.

“No impossible, only time needs”

I heard these words at nine years old at the event of an insurance company in which my mother worked. The slogan made me such a strong impression that he stayed with me for years. And everything in life happened just like that: no matter what I guess, everything turned out to be achievable, but it was necessary to go a certain way. After graduating from school, I went to the acting faculty with a light heart. By that time, I starred a lot in the cinema, the series “Daddy’s daughter” was successful, I was sure that I would act in any theatrical. And with a roar everywhere flew by. The failure was painful.

Then I set myself a goal – to enter the budget at all costs. It was important for me to prove to everyone and to myself that I was not by chance in the profession. I studied a lot, went through the thorny path and entered. This story has become a clear example for me: any dream should pass the test of time. But this is not a passive expectation, it must be moved. And then at the right time what you really want.
