For Greece Schengen Visa

To apply for a Greek Schengen visa, applicants can find application forms in several languages. However, if any of the accompanying documents are in a language other than English or Greek, they must be translated into either English or Greek. It is also important to note that all required documents for a Greek Schengen visa must be completed in English or Greek or translated into one of these languages.

Valid passport

  • Have at least two blank pages.
  • Bear the applicant’s signature.
  • Not be more than 10 years old.
  • Be valid for at least 3 months beyond the expiration date of the requested visa.
  • If the applicant has used any previous passports, they should also be submitted with the application, if applicable.

Passport-sized photos

To meet the photo requirements for your visa application, your photo should have a passport size of 3.5 x 4.5 cm and be taken within the last 6 months. It must be on a plain white background, and your face should be directly facing the camera with all your facial features clearly visible.

Documents pertinent to your trip

  • A travel itinerary or plan.
  • Proof of return to the country of residence or a forward ticket to another country.
  • Reason for travel to Greece.
  • Flight reservations.
  • Proof of financial means, such as bank statements for the last 3 months, personal properties, and/or other assets.
  • Proof of accommodations, including the booking reference number, location, and contact number of the hotel.

Travel medical insurance

  • A valid travel medical insurance that covers the entire visa period is required.
  • Your travel medical insurance must be valid in all Schengen countries.
  • Minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR must be purchased.
  • The confirmation letter or insurance document must clearly state the validity, duration, and extent of the insurance coverage.

Employment letter with the following information:

  • Name and address of employer
  • Nature of employment
  • Starting date of employment
  • Salary
  • Purpose of travel
  • Duration of time off from work for travel

Additional documents required - Scans (copies) of:

  • Personal-ID page of passport.
  • Older Schengen visas (if relevant).
  • Residence permit (if relevant).

Applicants below 18 years old

Applicants who are minors (below 18 years old) are required to submit the following additional requirements:
 1. Copy of birth certificate.

  • In case the minor applicant is adopted, adoption documents must be submitted.
  • If the minor applicant’s parents are divorced, divorce papers must be provided.
  • If the minor applicant’s parents are deceased, death certificates are required as well.

 2. Letter of consent from both parents or legal guardians.
 3. Passport copies of both parents or legal guardians.
 4. Additional documents may need to be provided in support of your travel visa application.

Greek Schengen Visa Application Steps

 1. Prepare all the required documents.
 2. Select “Tourism” as the reason for travel on the visa application form.
 3. Decide the number of entries needed to Greece or the Schengen area.
 4. Fill out the application form.

  • The application process for a Greek Schengen visa may differ depending on the applicant’s location. An online application form from here is available for download, completion, and printing, and paper copies must be submitted to the Greek Consulate or visa processing center.

 5. Schedule a visa appointment, if applicable.

  • To submit most Greek Schengen visa applications, applicants need to schedule an in-person appointment at the nearest Greek Consulate or visa center. However, it may also be possible to submit the application without a prior appointment during regular operating hours. Applicants should contact the Greek Consulate or visa center to confirm whether an appointment is required.

 6.Submit your Greece Schengen visa application.

  • It is important to note that applications for a Greek Schengen visa must be submitted no later than 15 days prior to the intended travel date, but not earlier than 6 months before the date of travel.
  • While most applications must be submitted in person to the Greek Consulate or visa processing center, there may be some variations in the submission procedures.
  • Biometric data, including fingerprints, will likely be required from applicants. Children under 12 years old are exempt from biometric data collection, but those 5 years and older must have their facial photo captured.
  • Applicants may also be requested to attend an interview on a different date to discuss their travel plans.

 7. Pay the visa application fee.

Greek visa Fees

Applying for a Greek Schengen visa typically costs 80 EUR, but some applicants may be exempt from paying the fee, such as students and children under 6. In addition to the visa fee, applicants may also need to pay a non-refundable service fee when submitting their application.

When to apply

Visa applications must be submitted at least 15 days before the travel date but no earlier than 6 months before the travel date.

Where to apply

To submit an application for a Greek Schengen visa, applicants must apply in person either at the Greek Consulate or at a consulate of a country that represents the consular affairs of Greece. If there is no Greek consulate in a certain country, applicants may submit their applications through a Schengen state consulate that represents the interests of a Greek consulate. Applicants are advised to submit their applications in the country where they hold citizenship or reside permanently.

Greek visa Processing Time

Greek Schengen visa applications are usually processed within 15 days, but processing times may extend up to 60 days in certain cases.

For approved visa applications:

  • Upon collection, applicants must verify that the information on the visa is accurate and complete.
  • Applicants who have received their Schengen Visa for Greece should remember the following things:
  1. It is important to notify the Greek Consulate or visa processing center of any changes to your itinerary after submitting your application. 
  2. Note that the approval of a Schengen visa does not guarantee entry into Greece or other Schengen countries. 
  3. Moreover, additional documentation such as proof of financial means or accommodation may still be required for entry.

For denied visa applications:

  • In case of a rejected application for a Greek Schengen visa, applicants have the right to initiate an appeal within 3 weeks. 
  • The first step in the appeal process involves obtaining the standard visa refusal form, which includes information about the reason for the rejection and the procedures for the appeal.
