The submission of visa applications must occur at least 15 days before the planned travel date, and not before 6 months of the intended travel date.
Where to apply
To apply for a Czech Schengen visa, applicants are required to submit their applications in person either at the Czech Consulate or at a visa application center associated with the Czech Republic. If there are multiple Czech missions (consulate or embassy) in a country, applicants should apply at the entity present in the consular district where they reside. Applications should only be submitted in the country of citizenship or residence. If there is no Czech consulate in a country, applicants may submit their applications through a Schengen state consulate that represents the interests of a Czech consulate.
Czech Visa Processing Time
For approved visa applications:
- Upon collection of the visa, it is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure that all information on the visa is complete and accurate.
- If applicants are unable to collect their visas in person, they have the option of appointing someone to collect the visa on their behalf. The name of the appointed person should be provided along with the visa application. Alternatively, if the name of the appointed person is not provided, they must present a certified power of attorney in order to collect the visa.
- The following are important things to keep in mind for individuals who have obtained their Schengen Visa for the Czech Republic:
- It is important to inform the Czech Consulate or visa application center if there are any changes to the itinerary after submitting the application.
- Approval of the Schengen visa does not ensure entry upon arrival in the Czech Republic or other Schengen countries.
- Further documents related to financial resources or lodging may still be necessary to enter the Czech Republic or other Schengen areas.
For denied visa applications:
- In case of a rejection of the Czech Schengen visa application, the applicant has the right to appeal the decision within 15 days.
- To begin the appeal process for a rejected Czech Schengen visa application, you will need to obtain the standard visa refusal form. This form will provide details about why your application was rejected and outline the procedures for appealing the decision.
- A formal request for an appeal must be submitted, which should:
- Be sent in person or by mail.
- Be sent to the same Czech consulate that rejected the visa application.
- Have the applicant’s signature or that of a legal representative.
- Declare why the applicant is appealing the rejection. It should be noted that the reason for challenging the rejection decision should not be based on new information or information not provided during the original application.
- The processing of the appeal requires a non-refundable fee of 60 EUR to be paid.
- After the appeal is received, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs will make a decision within 60 days. The outcome of the appeal will be communicated to the applicant through the consulate or visa processing center where the original application was submitted and rejected.
- If the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs upholds the rejection of the Schengen visa, the applicant can request a judicial review of the decision. The appeal must be filed at the district court of the district in the Czech Republic where the applicant intends to reside if the visa was granted. The district where the appeal is lodged must be the same as the district specified in the original visa application.
